How to Apply Different Types of Bandages?
We all believe that we know how to apply a bandage! However, do you know that we should follow different methods to apply one depending on the size and the severity of wounds? Here are some tips as to how you could apply bandages for different types of wounds.
Small cuts and scratches:
First wash the wound with water and soap, then apply a band-aid. If the cut is bleeding then use antibiotic ointment. Make sure to replace the band-aid when you take your bath or shower.
Bandages for second degree sunburns:
Most of us think that it is unnecessary to use bandages for these sunburns. However, it is always wise to use a makeshift bandage on them. You should not use any type of lotions or ointments on these types of sun burns.
Big cuts:
First you have to wash the wound with care, especially around the open area. You could use either a liquid soap or antibacterial ointment to clean the wound.
You could lightly open the cut to see how deep it is, as long as the victim could bear the pain.
Once you are done analyzing, you could use a padding (either a paper towel or gauze) and wrap it all with a roll bandage.
Puncture wounds:
If the wound has the object embedded in it then, do not try to remove it. Just by leaving it in you are creating a temporary seal. You could wash the outer part of the wound; just make sure that you are not cutting yourself. If it happens then it might increase the likelihood of spreading diseases between you and the victim. If the injured person is losing a lot of blood, then apply more pressure using gauze pad or paper towel. You could then try to raise the wounded area above victim’s heart level.
