Heartburn Relief First Aid

Heartburn is a painful sensation caused when the fluids become too acidic and begin eroding your esophagus or stomach lining. This can be extremely uncomfortable and in the long run can cause serious damage. Heart burn should be treated as quickly as possible to minimize this damage and provide heartburn relief.

Water

Sometimes, a glass or two of water can be enough to relieve heartburn. This is simple, easy, and cheap, so you should always try it first. Drinking water forces acid down out of your esophogus, and dilutes your stomach juices to make them less potent.

Antacids

Antacids create bases when dissolved in water. Bases are direct opposites to acids. When bases and acids mix, they neutralize each other, turning into harmless water and salt. Antacids are readily available as dissolving flavored tablets almost anywhere you go. They´re easy take take orally; you can usually choose to either chew them or dissolve them in water for drinking.

Baking Soda

If you don´t have a medial antacid available, you can use baking soda as a readily available home remedy that does the same thing. Simply mix a spoonful of baking soda into a tall glass of water and drink it for heartburn relief. The concoction might not taste good, but it should take effect almost immediately. Take care not to take too much.

Posture

To lessen the effects of heartburn, you want to keep your esophagus directly above your stomach. The best way to do this is to stand or sit upright. Avoid laying down or reclining.

Diet

When you have heartburn, it´s best to generally avoid eating anything at all. If you must eat, though, you should take care not to eat anything that will only make it worse. Don´t eat things with a lot of fat or grease. Also avoid acidic fruits and drinks.
